Oversized ink caricature drawings done by Victor Volk, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin resident who served in the Army Air Forces and was assigned to work in the United States Strategic Bombing Survey during World War II. The twelve oversized drawings are original works done by Volk while in the service. Six of the drawings depict caricatures of various World War II military and governmental leaders playing musical instruments. One drawing is of caricatures of Axis leaders playing what appear to be musical instruments, but are in fact various machine guns, artillery pieces, and munitions. Included are caricatures of Dwight D. Eisenhower, British general Bernard Montgomery, French general Charles DeGaul, and many others. Axis leaders include Hitler, Tojo, and Goering. The other six drawings are of individual caricatures that include Goebbels and U.S. soldiers. Other manuscript materials include photocopies and paper prints of the sketches and photocopies of biographical information on Volk. A black and white copy print photograph of Volk sitting at a drafting table completes the collection. Volk, a Milwaukee native, moved to New York City to work as an illustrator before the war. After joining in 1942, Volk continued to do drawing and did the illustrations for instruction manuals for the Army Air Forces. After the war, Volk continued to do sketches for various magazines and publications. He returned to Milwaukee before eventually moving to Florida.
